@Sheldon I’d advise you to not self publish. Main reason being that you’d have to take care of the promotional aspect of it yourself, or pour your own money into advertising. Either of which will take up a lot of your time. To self-promote yourself without spending you have to invest a lot of time into writing short stories or articles or just post many, many, many social media posts. While with the paid advertisements you also waste time because you may have to write/create them and/or hire someone to do it for you, then also spend time tracking the performance of the ads. In my opinion you’d be better off using that time to write more stories, more books, more of everything. Sorry if this comment seems rude or condescending or anything of the sort. I’m just trying to help.

Definitely a big decision. I bet if I meet the right agent that cares about my book, I’ll be all in on normal publishing… but there is a part of me that sees the indie root as so appealing.
